An overview of SOYA’s lineage and Hatha Yoga Styles

SOYA offers a teacher training experience like no other in our 200 and 300 hour upgrade programs:

You don’t have to travel to India to find an authentic immersion or classical yoga training.  SOYA’s masterful, highly trained faculty offer a uniquely individualized, deeply transformative, safe and intimate teacher training, customized to meet your lifestyle.

With 20 years of experience training teachers and guided by the highest standards, SOYA gives students a diverse and broad exposure to many styles, lineages and philosophies. Ever evolving, SOYA’s Teacher Training is designed with flexibility, accessibility and transformation at its heart.

With its roots in the Sivananda lineage, the training is inclusive of many styles of hatha yoga such as Ashtanga, Sivananda, Yin, Restorative, and Vinyasa all while incorporating thorough study of yoga philosophy. This outstanding aspect of the SOYA Teacher Training embraces unity in all yogis, regardless of their paths and styles of yoga. SOYA holds dear to its heart the words of Swami Sivananda, “The paths are many but the Truth is One.” Many of these teachings are drawn from the book, “Letters from the Yoga Masters”, written by SOYA co-founder Marion (Mugs) McConnell.

SOYA’s lead trainers have extensive experience teaching and training, and are dedicated to continued study.  All of the SOYA lead trainers are E-RYT500 with Yoga Alliance and certified with the International Yoga Teachers’ Association (IYTA). Some of the master yoga teachers they have had the blessing to study with include Dr. Hari Dickman, Swami Vishnudevananda, Pattabhi Jois, Namadeva Acharya, Erich Schiffmann, Rod Stryker and Chris Chavez.

SOYA has trained over 500 teachers in small group settings. Our graduates are well prepared to instruct upon completion of the training and we offer ongoing support to our students after graduation as they advance their skills as teachers.

We are a registered school with Yoga Alliance and our RYS200®  and RYS300®  Hour Advanced Upgrade curricula meet International training standards with the International Yoga Teachers’ Association (IYTA).   Graduates of our trainings are eligible to become Registered Yoga Teachers with Yoga Alliance.  The RYT500® certification is achieved by completing both an RYS200®  and RYS300® Advanced training.  SOYA RYT500® graduates are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance and as Full Teaching Members of the International Yoga Teachers’ Association (IYTA).

* Yoga Alliance credentials are the premier form of recognition for yoga teachers. If you become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) you will be awarded a specific designation based on your level of training and experience.  Registration with Yoga Alliance is a globally recognized credential that helps ensure that yoga students can find knowledgeable instruction and training programs.
