The SOYA annual retreat is a rare opportunity to study with Yoga Masters in beautiful Naramata, British Columbia, Canada.  Spend the weekend immersed in community, refining your practice, reunited with your SOYA family. Insight Yoga: A Yoga and Meditation Weekend Retreat with Sarah and Ty Powers
June 6-8, 2014, Naramata BC

Sarah and TyThis weekend retreat will incorporate Sarah Powers’ unique approach: a practice of passive Yin poses balanced by an active or Yang flow practice, interspersed with Mindfulness and loving-kindness sessions. Drawing from Buddhist teachings, Sarah and Ty will give brief talks and practices to encourage a greater capacity for emotional maturity and open awareness.

Yoga can be understood as a set of behaviors that encourages a holistic experience of the body, heart, and mind. It is a process of fully inhabiting ourselves. Mindfulness is an attitude we adopt in which we let go of all motivations to manipulate the moment, developing the capacity for keen observance free from willful interference. When we include both in our practice, we learn to easily come home to our bodies and minds, regardless of what is happening in us or to us, opening us freshly to an authentic intimacy with our lives and ourselves.

Taking time away from our busy schedules to come on a yoga and mindfulness intensive can realign our clarity of mind and ease of being, leaving us refreshed, inwardly connected, and re-inspired in our daily practice and life.

SOYA Retreat Leadership

Sarah Powers began teaching in 1987. She is the founder and author of Insight Yoga, which interweaves the insights and practices of Yoga, Buddhism, Taoism, and Transpersonal Psychology into an integral practice to discover and enliven the body, heart and mind. She also has several DVDs including Insight Yoga: Mingling Heaven and Earth, Insight Yoga, and Yin and Vinyasa. Her yoga style blends both a Yin sequence of floor poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems, combined with an alignment-based slow flow or Yang practice, influenced by Viniyoga, Ashtanga, Iyengar teachings, and Qigong. Sarah feels that enlivening the physical and pranic bodies, as well as learning to open to our psychological patterns is paramount for preparing one to deepen and nourish insights into one’s essential nature–a natural state of awareness. She draws from her studies in Transpersonal Psychology, as well as her in-depth training in the Vipassana, Tantric and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism.

Ty Powers has been a yoga practitioner since 1987, facilitating and leading yoga and meditation retreats throughout the world with his wife Sarah Powers. Ty has been practicing Buddhism for many years under the guidance of Dzogchen teacher Tsoknyi Rinpoche, psychospiritual teacher Jennifer Welwood, John Welwood, B. Alan Wallace, Stephen and Martine Batchelor, Jack Kornfield, as well as many of the Spirit Rock teachers, most notably, Ajahn Amaro. He completed Spirit Rock’s 2 1/2 year Community Dharma Leader training program in 2003. Ty has taught daylongs at Spirit Rock and other Dharma centers on issues concerning cultural diversity. Ty is also a mentor to several men and women around the globe.

Retreat Costs:

Tuition – $315.00 + GST

Select your choices on the Registration Form for meals and accommodations.

Accommodation options range from two nights shared camping for $35 to a private room for the weekend at $235 at Naramata Centre.   Meals are required for all guests staying at Naramata Centre.  You can choose the:

  • Economy Meal Package (Saturday Lunch and Dinner) or
  • Full Meal Package (Saturday Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Sunday Breakfast)
